Church and state must always be separate.

Jews are united by their history and experience rather than religious beliefs; “denominational differences within Judaism must not be allowed to threaten the basic unity of the people” (1971: 69).

Theological problems are “somewhat irrelevant,” as the key task for Jews is to insure the survival of the Jewish people.

“Jewish rituals are nice, up to a point” (1971: 69). Some rituals need to be changed and each Jew must decide which ones to observe.
